JK Rowling Doesn t Need More Press Coverage

Mooncalves It's hard not to notice the adorable, long-necked Mooncalves being fed mid-trailer. Known to only come out during a full moon, Mooncalves were first introduced in the original Fantastic Beasts mo

The reveal trailer narration says, "A strange and mysterious talent you possess may be the key to unlocking this dormant power." It's clear that how you respond to learning about this secret knowledge will change your character and gameplay experie

The Harry Potter franchise spans books, films, and video games. This forms the Wizarding World, a universe that rivals Star Wars and The Lord of the Rings in scope and success. This is what makes Hogwarts Legacy so appealing to fans because it has an imaginative world that is already establis

I’m not even telling you that you can’t buy the game. I’m saying if you do, it needs to be from a place of knowledge that support for the game continues to legitimise JK Rowling. Regardless of her apparent lack of involvement in Hogwarts Legacy, it ensures she maintains her platform. Hatsune Miku didn’t write Harry Potter; she did. You also need to consider that Leavitt, anti-SJW views and all, is part of that group of developers, meaning he’s getting your support

Of course, Rowling has also pointed out the more personal, more misogynist abuse she has received. Again, I don’t think Rowling is an irredeemable monster. I don’t think anything is solved by calling her a bitch, or worse. The problem is that this is a verbally violent issue on both sides.

We’ve seen transphobic institutions make progress in the wake of Rowling’s support, and this being brought into the timelines of even well-meaning individuals only serve to spread them further and wider. I understand the noble intention, and figures like this should be demonised and called out where appropriate, but I fear we’re forgetting about the echochamber we exist within and how substantial Rowling and Harry Potter are in the cultural zeitgeist. Fantastic Beasts is still getting a third film, The Cursed Child is still killing it on the West End, and I bet the films will be all over television during the Christmas period. Harry Potter isn’t going anywhere, it’s eternally relevant and will be read to generations of children to come. For the absolute worst, it’s here to stay, and Rowling’s pockets will be continually lined with profit regardless of how loud we manage to get.

This is where Cyberpunk 2077 comes back in. That too had no non-binary option - presumably non-binary folk went extinct in approximately 2056 - although unlike Hogwarts Legacy DLC Legacy, it linked voice to pronoun choice, so at least Hogwarts Legacy appears to be going one better. I suppose while it doesn’t change my thoughts on the game, I am happy that it exists, if only so other games can learn from it. Cyberpunk’s trans representation wasn’t great, but the character creator - flawed as it was - broke an important boundary. Now Hogwarts Legacy is following in its footsteps, though it remains to be seen just how far it will improve upon

Boggarts Though technically considered an amortal non-being, Boggarts are shapeshifters that assume the form of the observer's worst fear. No one knows what they actually look like and captured Boggarts are typically kept in inanimate objects, such as the cabinet in the Defense Against the Dark Arts classroom. The charm Riddikulus can be used to banish the Boggart by transforming it into something comical such as a mechanical dummy in the trai

Cyberpunk 2077 is easily the biggest game to push a transgender character creator to the forefront, and I’ll be returning to that in time, but first I think there’s a big question to be asked: does Hogwarts Legacy’s trans inclusive character creator make any difference? My answer is a rather blunt ‘no

Gay and lesbian people received similar stigma several decades ago, and now the very same sad old fuckers who villainised them are emerging from the woodwork to spout their nonsense all over again. Prominent sitcom writers and authors believe we are erasing the identity of women, or are somehow going through all this mental and physical trauma just to sneak into bathrooms and prey on the vulnerable. That’s an awful lot of hoops to jump through just to sexually assault someone, and those with such a twisted mindset won’t let their gender identity be an obstacle to committing such crimes - a point that is sadly been proven time and time again.

What kind of emotional impact, if any, will Avalanche Software and Warner Bros. Games bake into decisions made in its 1800s setting? Will the changes that you make in the game feel permanent? Knowing this detail about the game only begs thousands of more questions, but it has great promise, and we can't ignore t

The Deus Ex series are action RPGs that first launched back in 2000. On a visual level, it was heavily inspired by the Blade Runner movie. However, its narrative is driven by a similar kind of conspiracy and intrigue that tapped into the popularity of the X-Files TV show. It is a series that fans of the cyberpunk genre should look into, and it certainly deserves to make a comeba
